Tunnel of Oppression- before reading article
The Tunnel of Oppression was really interesting. It brought up subjects that everyone knows about but doesn't like to discuss. It really made me realize how horrible and brutal our world can be, and how blessed I am to live the privileged life that I do. Some of the exhibits even made me sick to my stomach, like the one about prostitution. Most people think that prostitution is just for females who are druggies, and can't function in a normal work atmosphere, but not very many people think about children prostitutes. I also liked how the exhibit on human slavery talked about cases that have occurred in Maryland, because it really makes people realize that stuff like that does not just happen in far away places, where people are different than us, but rather right here. The last exhibit that really caught my attention was the one on female genital mutilation. Even though the sculptures were a little vivid for me, it actually shows what some cultures force females to go through, and the pain that would be associated with some of these procedures. I thought the Tunnel did a very good job with bringing peoples attention to subjects, and more than enough information was provided at each exhibit to get the information across.
