“Subject in History”

I am a “subject in history” because I was on the first public high school swim team. In the winter of 2006, my senior year, Anne Arundel Public High Schools added swim team to their array of sports teams. I have been swimming since I was 8 on my local communities’ summer swim team. So I thought it would be a good idea to try-out for the new swim team that winter for Broadneck High School. I got on the team and it ended up being a good decision. It was different than swim team with a summer team because there were harder practices and stricter rules. Since, Broadneck got the swim team my senior year I was only able to swim for one winter season. I have gone back to some swim meets over this past winter and the team is doing great! I feel that I hold an important role in my high school’s swim team because the winter I swam will go down in the school’s history of the first swim team at Broadneck.

"Subject in History Assignment"

I am considered a "subject in history" because I was one of approximately 80 students from my senior class to participate in a newly established internship program called "Senior Experience." This program was offered to all members of the senior class to partake in. It spanned over the last month of school, in which is typically known for having no work to complete, so no one even shows. In order to get accepted into the program, you had to fill out an application, get letters of recommendation from members of the faculty, write a short paper, as well as be well rounded in the academic and extra curricular activities. I got accepted into the program and had the opportunity to do an internship in a local hospital. Overall, the program was successful and has become an option for every senior class.

"Subject in History"

I am a "subject in history" because I am the first in my family from the first generation to go to a university. Also the fact that it is hard for a hispanic to go to college beacuse of all the sterotypes and because most hispanic girls do not go to a big university. They either start working or just end up pregnant. So I guess I also broke the sterotype of hispanic girls born and raised in the United States. Me being able to go college was a big thing for my family and that is why I am a "subject in history."

I am a "subject in history" because I am one of the few and far between latinas that actually make it to college. I believe that simply by going to school, I am breaking the stereotype that latinas are not interested in their education and that we do nothing with our lives. Another reason I am a "subject in history" is the fact that I get to participate in probably the most important presidential election of our time.

Subject in History

As I look back upon history, I see that there are individuals who make a difference in the world, but I fail to realize that every person, even though they are not well known, makes a difference in history. As for myself, I feel that simply living in this generation and being part of the American culture is what makes me a subject in history. Especially from my background, I feel that I am one person that fits into the second generation of Asian Americans. My parents came overseas from Korea and China and their lives were completely different from mine, so I see myself as participating in a democratic society revolving around American culture. I also see myself as part of the minorities groups that are gradually emerging and fighting for equal rights. Especially during this election, our nation is in a time of change that will eventually make history and I am glad to be a part of it.

I am a subject in history because have had many experiences that I have learned from and been able to share with the many people around me, so that they have also been able to grow and learn. As a part of a family, I constantly am connected and interact with them changing and enriching there lives as they do for me.
When i was 19 I was arrested for speeding/reckless driving one afternoon while i was with a friend. It was still an age where a lot of my friends were driving "stupidly"/sometimes drunk at night etc... Although my incident was not alcohol related it brought awareness to a lot of my friends and since then a lot of people i know really tightened down on there driving habits. None of my friends will get near the wheel of a car drunk. If that event could have potentially saved me or a friend from a DUI and/or accident, it was worth it.

I believe that two events define my subject in history. The first, is the season Roger Clemens had in 1986. Although I was just one, when I look back at my love for the game of baseball and my admiration of one person's career, that year defined it for me. Until that year, only one other pitcher had one the American League Most Valuable Player Award. Roger won it in 1986. He also won the first of his seven Cy Young awards, an award given to the consensus best pitcher of each league. When I was young, he was who I wanted to be, and I dedicated my life to baseball. I loved it then and I love it now and I owe it to amazing years like 1986 from Roger Clemens. The second event that makes me a subject in history, is the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. To me, this is what will define how many of the political policies of my time were formed. I also feel like it reinforced my true values in life, being my family and friends. I try to live my life so that if I were to lose anyone like so many did in that attack, I would not regret a single thing I said or did to them, and that I would know I loved them to the fullest. Much of my faith in the President was restored as well, as I feel he handled the situation as good as any other President I feel could have. So these two historical events have been especially important in making me a subject in history.
